CMRInternational convention governing the rights and duties of the carrier, sender and consignee in cross-border road freight. The CMR consignment note is the basic transport document accompanying the goods.
SpediceArranging the transport of goods through a third party (a forwarder) who books carriers and organises the shipment — as opposed to a carrier, which physically moves the goods with its own vehicle.
KabotážDomestic haulage carried out by a carrier established in another EU country. It is limited in time and number of operations (e.g. max. 3 cabotage trips within 7 days of unloading an international transport).
Návěs / tahačThe tractor unit is the powered vehicle without cargo space that drives the combination. The semi-trailer has no front axle and rests part of its weight on the tractor's fifth wheel. Together they form an articulated combination.
LTL / FTLFTL (Full Truck Load) = the shipment fills the whole vehicle and travels directly from sender to consignee. LTL (Less Than Truckload) = a smaller shipment shares cargo space with other freight, usually via a hub.
ADRThe European Agreement concerning the international carriage of dangerous goods by road. Vehicles and drivers carrying hazardous substances must meet special requirements for equipment, marking and training.
DispečinkThe control desk of a haulage company that plans routes, assigns jobs to drivers and tracks the transport in real time.
Celní odbavení / tranzitní doklad T1The process of checking and registering goods crossing a customs border outside the EU. The T1 document allows non-cleared goods to move through the EU to the destination customs office.
Paletová výměnaA system where, at loading or unloading, an equal number of pallets of equal quality is exchanged between the carrier and the sender/consignee, so neither side loses out on its own pallets.
TachografA device that mandatorily records driving time, breaks and rest periods; used to check compliance with driving-time regulations in road transport.
